Well, I suppose with how contaminated the oceans are, the mermaids must be really hungry. I never thought they were kind souls, anyways. This just reinforces how evil I think they really are. After all, the ocean is a dangerous place!

You are right on point! Early legends mermaids and sirens paints them as incredibly violent. I don’t know about evil in the sense they intentionally cause misery, but evil because they eat people, definitely!
